Junior Rock Riders

Riders with basic experience refine their groundwork, develop problem-solving and timing, and build stronger partnerships with their horses as they take the next steps toward true horsemanship.

Junior Rock Riders take the next step in their horsemanship journey, building on the basics of care, ground control, and riding. Through hands-on sessions, riders strengthen their communication, refine their skills, and learn to think like true horsemen and horsewomen. Each session focuses on partnership, developing a calm, responsive horse and a confident, capable rider.

Horse Care

Understanding and caring for your horse is the cornerstone of good horsemanship. Learn essential care practices including grooming, feeding, and recognizing signs of health or stress so you can maintain a happy, healthy horse.

You’ll gain practical, hands-on experience and the confidence to handle everyday care with ease, building a bond based on trust and respect.

You’ll learn:

Daily care routines: feeding, grooming, and handling
How to recognize your horse’s physical and emotional needs
Tack fitting, saddling, and equipment care
Basic equine health and safety

Ground Control

Ground control is the foundation of every successful ride. Learn how to communicate clearly, establish boundaries, and gain respect through thoughtful groundwork. You’ll discover how body language, timing, and consistency build mutual trust and understanding, creating a partnership that translates seamlessly to the saddle.

You’ll practice:

Building trust and respect
Reading and influencing body language
Desensitizing and confidence-building exercises
Moving hindquarters, forequarters, and backing with light cues

Safety

Every great horseperson starts with awareness and communication. In these sessions, riders learn how to move safely around horses, read equine body language, and respond calmly to different situations. You’ll practice clear, kind communication to help your horse feel confident and relaxed both on the ground or under saddle.

You’ll explore:

Reading warning signs and staying safe in any setting
Establishing clear boundaries and trust
Calming techniques for anxious horses
Developing feel and timing in your communication

Riding

Focus on developing balance, feel, and confidence in the saddle. You’ll learn how groundwork connects directly to riding — improving softness, responsiveness, and control. A supportive, encouraging approach helps both you and your horse grow together at a comfortable pace.

You’ll cover:

Seat, leg, and rein control
Transitions, flexion, and balance
Applying groundwork principles under saddle
